Swivels

Swivels are mechanical devices used in a wire or synthetic rope assembly, allowing the rope to rotate freely. They are commonly used in construction, directional drilling, and line pulling applications where they eliminate torque in the rope while bearing loads. This prevents over-twist stress on the cable or wire rope, making lifting and moving loads easier and safer.

Electroline® swivels neutralize torque energy and extend rope life. All our swivel products are made of 316 stainless steel or high-strength alloy.  Our Gold Band(™) swivels are proof-tested to two times the safe working load (SWL). Learn more about our swivels here.

Types of Swivels

There are many types of swivels on the market today, each designed for a specific purpose. At Electroline®, we offer a comprehensive selection of swivels rated for various load bearing capacities and with different terminations.

3000 Series Roller Bearing Swivels

These steel alloy swivels are plated with zinc for corrosion protection and are made to exact tolerances. They are an economical option and contain a single roller bearing.  These swivels are suitable for shorter rope lengths such as those used with lifting equipment. 6000 Series Gold Band® Swivels

The Electroline® 6000 Series Gold Band® Swivels are commonly used for high rotational speeds and longer cables and ropes. We supply these swivels with permanently lubricated angular contact bearings.  Flush pins are used to accommodate overhead and underground line stringing applications.

Gold Band® Oceanographic and Specialty Swivels

These specialty swivels are built using the same high-quality standards as the Gold Band(™) swivels but include extra features for specific applications.

  • Stainless Steel, Sealed Swivels are designed for ocean surface applications.  They are grease-filled and are sealed to prevent entry of sea water.  These swivels are manufactured from 316 stainless steel and contain angular contact ball bearings.
  • Stainless Steel, Pressure Compensated Swivels are designed for deep water applications.  They are oil-filled and contain a diaphragm for pressure compensation.  These swivels are manufactured from 316 stainless steel and contain angular contact ball bearings.

7200 Series 90-Degree Connectors (Non-Swiveling)

These non-swiveling connectors have an ultimate strength that is a minimum of 3 to 1 over safe working load.  They come in a variety of sizes.

Rope Thimbles for Clevis Swivels

Attaching a wire or synthetic rope to a swivel can be accomplished with a swivel that contains the Electroline® fitting on one side of the swivel.  If thimbles with clips are desired, solid core thimbles are recommended.  The cast-steel thimbles are zinc-plated and are designed to limit rope wear by preventing the rope from extending beyond the diameter of the swivel.

Replacement Clevis Pins

We offer three types of replacement swivel clevis pins:

  • 3000 Series: Hex Head Clevis Pin
  • 3000 Series: Slotted Clevis Pin
  • 6000 Series: Broached Clevis Pin
